“Macchine del Tempo”, an 80s-inspired pop exhibition to discover the Universe with INAF

From 25 November 2023 to 24 March 2024, the Time Machines exhibition will take place at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, an event that will bring together scientific dissemination, games and culture focusing on the work of researchers from the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF). Designed to talk about Italian astrophysics and astronomy, the exhibition aims at speaking to enthusiasts, families, school groups and experts, as well as to curious people wishing to learn the secrets of the universe.

Thanks to a modern, accessible and inclusive language accompanied by images, sounds and words, visitors will learn about how Italy has contributed to the latest great discoveries and incredible pictures of the cosmos. Furthermore, this will be a pop exhibition, a journey that will introduce the general public to the Italian Research Institute which studies the universe and that will play with the old and the new, with the style of the fabulous 80s, but with contents focused on today and tomorrow.

Over four months, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni will host high-level scientific meetings, with important members of global astrophysics and space research world, as well as scientific aperitifs and other informal and original events, Poetry Slam meetings or debates attended by intellectual and political protagonists active in the field of culture.

This immersive experience will be possible thanks to futuristic time machines created by humans to give the closest possible view of the beginning of everything ever more closely, from the most remote places on the planet and from space. Large telescopes and impressive infrastructures are the result of Italian ingenuity and research conducted at INAF observatories by women and men who are passionately committed every day to pushing the boundaries of human knowledge ever further.
